About Kevin McCabe, The Cob Building Specialist
Kevin McCabe was born and brought up in East Devon. As a local builder, he first began working on renovating and repairing cob buildings more than 30 years ago, before embarking upon the rare skill of building new cob houses, about a decade later.
Since then, he has built up a fabulous reputation for building bespoke properties, using the traditional construction techniques of cob, from locally sourced materials which blend naturally with their environment. He runs courses on cob building, both nationally and internationally.
Kevin has won a number of awards for his houses, including:
Considerate Constructors National Site Awards ‘Bronze Award’ in 2016, for Dingle Dell;
Local Area Building Control (LABC) ‘Best Vernacular Building Award’ in 2009, for Lyon House;
Local Area Building Control (LABC) ‘Best New Home Award’ in 2006, for Keppel Gate;
The Daily Telegraph ‘Individual Home Builder Award’ in 1995.
Kevin and his work have featured in the national media, including on BBC’s Countryfile and Channel 4’s Grand Designs and Grand Designs Revisited.
There are also numerous national and international media articles on both Keppel Gate and Dingle Dell.
